Postmodernism

Postmodernism is an art movement that developed in the mid to late 20th century. Defined by an attitude of skepticism, irony, or rejection of the grand narratives and ideologies of modernism. Pretty much-poking fun and pulling apart the concept of modernism out of one’s own curiosity.

Judy Chicago

Is an American feminist artist, art educator, and writer known for her large collaborative art installation pieces about birth and creation images, which examine the role of women in history and culture. Chicago was inspired to create this collective work because of the lack of imagery and representation of birth in the art world. Most of her work consisted of lithography.

In my opinion, the content of her work makes me a little uncomfortable with how explicit it can be. Tho it is displayed in a rather interested and elegant way.

Tracey Emin

Is an English artist known for her autobiographical and confessional artwork. Emin produces work in a variety of media including drawing, painting, sculpture, and sewn appliqué. Once the “enfant terrible” of the Young British Artists in the 1980s, Tracey Emin is now a Royal Academician of the Royal Academy of Arts. She created a number of monoprint drawings inspired by the public and private life of Princess Diana for a themed exhibition called Temple of Diana held at The Blue Gallery, London.

In my opinion, I really enjoy her work about Princess Diana as she had a rather interesting life that deserves to be documented via Art.

Robert Arneson

Was an American sculptor and professor of ceramics in the Art department at UC Davis for nearly three decades. During the start of the 1960s, Arneson and several other California artists began to abandon the traditional manufacture of functional ceramic objects and instead began to make nonfunctional sculptures that made confrontational statements. His body of work contains many self-portraits which have has been described as an “autobiography in clay”.

In my opinion, I find his work very humorous and somewhat controversial. His work is very exaggerated and goofy, to say the least.
